| One of the things I like so much about 80's metal were the hooks that all the great bands had. Hair metal bands like Bon Jovi, Warrant, Cinderella, Winger, Def Leppard, White Lion, etc. as well as more regular metal bands like Tesla, Skid Row, and even Judas Priest all knew how to write that great hook that made the song stick in your head for hours.
There was no better hook-writer than Michael Sweet. Stryper, to me, is the grand master of the hook. No one did it better.

Yep--Hooks and 80s metal go hand in hand!!!!
I instantly think of Angus and Malcom Young when I think of the hook masters... but you're right--it seemed to be "part of the genre" of that day... And the fact that it's just not part of the modern rock--I guess--is part of the reason I struggle to really get into it... I mean it's heavy and and all... but it doesn't "stick with me"... you nailed it...  |

| | A "hook" is basically any part of the song that has an extremely addicting melody, could be a guitar line though. Usually, the hook is the a chorus you can't get out of your head. |
